The company

Masía Ciscar is a family business founded in 1977, specialising in the production and commercialisation of berries — strawberries, blueberries and blackberries — and citrus fruit. Headquartered in Lepe, Huelva, the company operates across more than 700 hectares on 15 farms in Huelva, the Canary Islands and Portugal, and runs its own nursery in Granada where new varieties are developed. 460 permanent employees. 1,700 at the height of the harvest season. And nearly five decades in the sector.

The challenge: managing complexity with tools from the past

As Masía Ciscar expanded — more hectares, more farms, more workers — its paper-based and spreadsheet management model began to reach its limits. Day-to-day processes like attendance tracking, production records by employee, crew, plot and variety, task assignment and payroll exports all relied on slow manual workflows that were error-prone and difficult to maintain at that scale.

The consequences were real: frequent payroll errors that took hours to fix, compliance risks, poor visibility over production costs and, most importantly, no way to make quick decisions based on reliable data. By the time the information arrived, the moment to act had already passed.

There was another layer of complexity: Masía Ciscar operates as a group of separate companies. Managing employees who work for different entities — each with separate costs by company, farm and crop — made administration increasingly difficult. A consolidated view of attendance, productivity and payroll across all entities was practically impossible with manual tools.

The geographic spread — farms in Huelva, the Canary Islands and Portugal — combined with a diverse range of crops and a large seasonal workforce added to the operational pressure every campaign. Masía Ciscar had tried other digital solutions, but none of them could handle the complexity of their operations.

The solution: Agrogestia as an integral platform

In 2020, Masía Ciscar chose Agrogestia to digitalise its field operations. The implementation was gradual — starting with HR, then expanding to harvesting and machinery management.

Crew supervisors and warehouse managers now record everything from their mobile devices: working hours, tasks, harvesting activity, PPE distribution and warehouse operations. Tractor drivers use Agrogestia Mobility, which logs daily activity and shows the location of every vehicle and piece of machinery in real time.

On remote farms with limited connectivity, the system continues capturing data and synchronises automatically once the connection is restored.

The platform handles employees, costs and productivity separately for each legal entity, while giving management a consolidated view of the entire business. Agrogestia was also integrated with Masía Ciscar's payroll software and data server. Over the years, custom features have been developed to match the specific needs of the operation.

Results

The digital transformation with Agrogestia has generated measurable improvements in all critical areas of Masiá Ciscar's operations.

Production costs are now broken down by task, crop, variety, company and farm. Managers have the information they need on the same day, not days later.

Crew supervisors record everything from their phones. The HR team spends significantly less time on repetitive administrative work.

One result Masía Ciscar did not anticipate: the implementation process led them to reconsider workflows that had not changed in years. Not just faster — different. Digitalisation didn't only change the tools. It changed the way the team thinks about the work.

We decided to digitalise the entire productivity process — field and warehouse —and integrate it into payroll. We are very happy with the productivity gainsand the digital progress that Agrogestia has brought us.”
